Our goal this year is to promote our profession.

School Psychologists believe in public education. The Memorial Scholarship is just one committment to children, adolescents, growing adults, families and schools.

LAASP would like to raise an additional $1000 to award several students $500 and two free meals to the end of the year luncheon.

LAASP and it's members are invited to join these winners and the OSP winners as an "agenda item" at one of the LAUSD School Board Meetings.  We would like to use the photos with the board to create visibility within LAUSD, LA Times, newspapers, TV and other publications.

Every dollar you donate or raise is given directly to students.  Every child that applies learns a School Psychologist not only gives time, but wants students to give back by entering the field of education. Several past recipients are now working for LAUSD.

To support this campaign, you may want to:

1) Have a student in mind?  Donate an earmarked amount to be given as a "scholarship" for this student.  Help the student complete the application and send in your donation check with the application.  Your donation is tax deductible.

2) contact your high school college counselor and ensure they received the application

3) publicize the scholarship at your school stating why you give to this particular scholarship fund,

4) make a silent donation beyond the $2 per year you give through your membership dues.

5) consider having an after school bake sale, with your DIS counselees or other students helping you fundraise.

6) Consider asking parents or staff to donate to the cause, posting signs in your office

7) get creative.

There are two ways to donate.

1)  www.laasponline.org and click on Scholarship fund.

2) Send person checks written out to Los Angeles Association of School Psychologists.  In the note section, please indicate: Scholarship fund.  Please mail the check to:

The deadline for the school to submit the application is March 30, 2012.    Winners will be chosen and notified by May 7, 2012.

There are three major criteria for student applicants.  They are as follows:

A.           Plan to enter the educational field.

B.           Demonstrate academic excellence or a potential for academic excellence.

C.           Demonstrate financial need to enroll in a post-secondary institution.

Only one application will be accepted per school.  School personnel screen and select the candidate who will be considered by the scholarship committee.
